The Magnaghi Solari Higher Education Institute, located in the Emilian Food Valley, combines the hospitality institute of Salsomaggiore Terme (founded in 1961) and the agricultural institute of Fidenza within the “From Earth to Table” project. The school blends theory and hands-on laboratories with 4.0 technologies enhanced by the PNRR, promoting well-being through the Regional Prevention Plan, the Lilt project using Peer Education, and the WASHH campaign for healthy lifestyles.
Students are trained in both core academic subjects and specialized professional fields, such as Food Science and Culture, hospitality and gastronomy laboratories, English and French languages, and the tourism sector. Supported by an extensive network of partners, it offers excellent school-work training pathways, apprenticeships, and international mobility as the regional lead school for Erasmus projects.
The competencies in the field of Food Science and Culture relate to: food chemistry, food preservation, food and workplace hygiene, nutrition and diets in healthy lifestyles with a particular focus on the Mediterranean Diet across the different stages of life and in specific physiological conditions, as well as in metabolic, cardiovascular (CVD), and neoplastic diseases, and in the field of food culture.
The role of the Food Science and Culture group (ISISS) within the PANACEA Project consists of structuring nutrition and culinary workshops based on the principles of the Mediterranean Diet, along with practical educational content (interventions and tools targeted at pregnant women).
